The science part is actually fairly simple. Huey has a bunch of white LEDs hidden in his body and through the use of an optical sensor, it triggers the matching shade. The adjustments are made fast and make Huey appear to be magically changing colors. In fact, the optical sensor sets off the multi-colored LEDs in the lamp that will change hue and intensity to create a perfect match.
